Our Basset Hound Story starts about 20 years back. Jim,my husband, asked me if I would go get an air conditioner for our attic bedroom in Baltimore. It gets pretty sultry in Maryland. Of course I would. I was directed to the Baltimore Gas and Electric store in the mall, and a very enthusiastic and knowledgeable sales person was eager to help. Too much information and some low blood sugar sent me to a time out at the frozen yogurt stand. Antsy as usual, I strolled through the mall right passed the pet shop. We all know now to stay away from the pet shop, but that was 20 years ago. But there he was. Ears every where. And what eyes. I do believe in Love at First sight. What a tug at my heart. I walked in as if I was in a trance and pretty much put all the money I had in my jeans on that counter. I asked how much and it was exactly what Jim had given me for the air conditioner. What a coinkydink !! It was all too perfect.
Well don’t ask. Floyd was 11 weeks old and quite the load so I put him up on my shoulder and we went home. When Jim got home I had some “splainin” to do. Needless to say my sons were tickled. We all had a new puppy and they slept downstairs where it was cool. Or Cooler.
So the puppy was upstairs in a crate when Jim walked in, asked where is it. I said upstairs. Jim went up and came right back down.”Wait a minute. What have you done??”
Floyd was my constant companion for the rest of his [too short for me] life. I got my baby horse some months before I got Floyd, so Floyd came to the barn with me to help me train my colt. Floyd came with us on our first trail ride and most all our trail rides from then on. He became really wise to our surroundings and was very brave to find ways to cross creeks & river, and avoid disasters for 12 plus years. All the way to the trails in Oklahoma where we moved in 1995.
